8 Things You Didn't Know You Can Cook in an Ooni Pizza Oven

Posted by James Higgins on

As much as we love pizza, and especially homemade on an Ooni Pizza Oven, there is more to Ooni than just baking authentic Neapolitan pizzas. We love getting creative with our Ooni and thought it would be a good idea to see if we can cook a full day of food in our beloved pizza oven, the Ooni Karu 16 in this case.

Breakfast - Chickpea Shakshuka

Bring simple pantry ingredients to life with a trio of spices in this one-pan wonder. Cooked in Ooni’s durable, cast iron Skillet, this Middle Eastern-inspired dish is perfect for breakfast but great for lunch and dinner too. Full recipe here.

Breakfast - Hot Cross Chelsea Buns

These Hot Cross Chelsea Buns begin with an enriched dough that gets filled with cinnamon, lemon, and dried fruit, and marked with a flour-and-water cross. Then, this already remixed sweet treat gets another layer of fusion with cinnamon-roll inspired cream cheese frosting applied post-bake and left to melt ever so slightly into the warm rolls. This can be made using a regular oven tray. View recipe here.

Dinner - Umami Ribeye Steaks with Honey Butter Asparagus

This unique recipe is another creation from Daniel Shahin of United Q BBQ Podcast, and it’s defined by the mouth-watering, salty Umami butter that melts perfectly into the juicy ribeye steak. Paired with fresh asparagus stems coated in a honey-butter dressing, it’s the ideal indulgent recipe to make the most of your Dual-Sided Grizzler Plate. Full recipe here.

Dinner - Camembert, Brie and White Beer Fondue

Fondue is a melted cheese dish from Switzerland, served in a communal pot over a portable stove such as a candle or spirit lamp. As a shareable, warming, and indulgent dish, it’s a favourite at ski chalets and date nights alike. Although good year-round, the richness of the melted cheese fits particularly well with colder autumn and winter evenings, served with a selection of (often stale) chunks of bread and boiled potato. The cast iron Skillet works perfectly as the communal pot in this recipe.

Dessert - Easy Salted Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie

A skillet cookie is a great way to make the most of your oven as it cools down at the end of your pizza party. In a cast iron skillet pan, the chocolate-loaded batter absorbs the residual heat from the oven as it bakes, infusing your backyard with irresistible sweet aromas. Fresh out of the oven, there’s nothing quite like spooning a serving of vanilla bean ice cream onto a warm slice, the refreshing chill of the ice cream mingling  with the salty, rich, flavours of the cookie. Dessert - Fig, Blackberry, and Almond Crostata

This seasonal showstopper is a take on the Italian jam-filled Crostata, and is the perfect mix of sweet, tangy, and spiced flavour to round off any family meal. Homemade conserve of blackberry, fig, and almond is spread atop a melt-in-the-mouth pastry base, with a beautiful lattice finish. Best made in the cast iron skillet pan and served with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream.  Full recipe here.
